General Gifts
Basic General Gifts
Calm
Activation Time: Normal
Activation Cost: One Gnosis
Challenge: Social vs. target
Retest: Empathy
Follow-up Cost: 0-5 Mental Traits
Effect: You soothe another's anger. If they are in a Frenzy provoked by anything except Rage-healing, they immediately regain control, leaving Frenzy. Otherwise, they lose Rage instead -- one Rage plus one for each Mental Trait you spent, up to a limit of half their current Rage (round in the target's favor). You have to choose the Mental Traits you spend without necessarily knowing how many Rage your target will lose; extra Mental Traits you spent have no effect.
Desperate Strength (CB20)
Activation Time: At Will
Activation Cost: One Willpower, and take one level of Aggravated damage to your own natural Health Levels
Effect: In a time of great need, you call on immense strength -- at the cost of your own will and health. You may avail yourself of an additional retest on a Strength-related challenge. You may use this gift for as many retests as you like, even on a single challenge, as long as you pay the cost for each retest. You may even use this Gift after attempting the Rank "Might" retest, as a special exception to the rule that Might must be the last retest.
Fiddlefish
Activation Time: Personal
Challenge: Simple Test
Effect: By scooping a hand or paw into a lake, stream, or other body of fresh or salt water, the Gurahl may acquire a fish large enough to satisfy her hunger. Overuse of this gift, particularly in a specific area, may arouse Gaia's ire and cause the gift to not function.
Duration: One scene (or one fish)
Grisly Aspect
Activation Time: Normal
Challenge: Static Social Challenge
Retest: Intimidation
Effect: This gift endows a Gurahl with a frightening aura and an appearance so frightening that it causes opponents to disengage and flee from combat. While it does not cause any increase in strength, it does increase the Gurahl's height and mass. It causes the Gurahl to exude a pheromone that causes herbivores to panic and invokes a sense of dread in even the fiercest of carnivores. Normal humans flee as if suffering from the delirium. (Note, this gift is not a veil breach unless in Crinos). Some humans have been known to suffer heart failure after seeing a Gurahl use this gift in Crinos.
Resistance Challenge: Supernatural creatures must spend a willpower and engage the Gurahl in a social challenge, retest intimidation, in order to resist the effects of this gift. The Gurahl is given an additional intimidating x4 traits for such challenges.
Duration: Scene
Healing Tongue (as Theurge Mother's Touch)
Activation Time: Personal
Required: Touching the wound to be healed on another living creature. This gift does not mend Battle Scars.
Activation Cost: 1 Gnosis

Follow-Up Challenge: Extended Static Mental Challenge vs. twice the subject's Rage or Willpower, whichever is greater
Retest: Medicine
Follow-up Cost: For additional healing, 0-4 Gnosis.
Effect: Gaia's regenerative power flows through your hands, knitting together flesh and bone. Your touch heals one Health Level of damage, plus one Health Level per success on the follow-up challenge, up to a limit of your permanent Gnosis, plus one for each additional Gnosis spent, on another living being. You can't heal yourself, spirits, or undead. In order to heal a non-Garou, you need to succeed at a Mental Challenge.

Rouse to Fury (as Children of Gaia Para Bellum) (CB20)
Activation Time: Personal
Required: The initial attack must have been made by your opponents.
Activation Cost: One Rage
Effect: Children of Gaia aren’t pacifists, despite the rumors; they always stand ready to protect the Mother. You gain +2 traits in physical challenges against the enemy who first began the battle, or an enemy who has injured one of your packmates or allies during this fight.
Duration: Until the end of the combat.
Sense Pattern Breaker (as Metis Sense Wyrm)
Activation Time: Personal
Challenge: Mental vs. Storyteller difficulty based on intensity of Wyrm influence (high intensity is low difficulty, low intensity is high difficulty)
Retest: Occult or Investigation
Effect: A mystical sense not unlike a scent tells you whether the Wyrm has corrupted anything in the area. This "Wyrm-Taint" may mean there is an enemy nearby, or it may simply mean that an innocent bystander ate Wyrm-manufactured food or works at a spite-filled office.
Sentinel’s Warning
Activation Time: Personal
Activation Cost: One Gnosis
Challenge: Mental Challenge
Retest: Awareness
Effect: When activated, this gift allows the Gurahl to sense the presence of any enemies, whether supernatural or mundane, in the vicinity. This allows him to act first in a combat or take steps to neutralize the threat.

Treeshake
Activation Time: Personal
Activation Cost: One Gnosis
Challenge: Simple Challenge
Retest: Survival
Effect: This gift allows the Gurahl to obtain food from a tree by grasping it by the trunk and shaking it. The tree does not need to be in season, or even need to be a fruit bearing tree. It will provide edible nuts and fruits, enough to feed up to five people.
Duration: One scene
Ursa's Cleaning (as Bonegnawer Resist Toxin)
Activation Time: At Will
Effect: Your constitution has been spiritually enhanced to enable you to deal with a Bone Gnawer's typically unusual diet. You may neutralize most poisons from your body at will, and you benefit from a three-Trait bonus on any challenge to cope with a Wyrm-enhanced toxin.
Wyld Resurgence (CB20)
Activation Time: Normal

Follow-up cost: Optional one Willpower
Effect: You infuse your body with healing energies, rapidly regenerating from even grievous wounds. Intermediate General Gifts
Dreams of Buri-Jaan
Activation Time: Normal
Activation Cost: One Gnosis
Challenge: Static Mental vs 7 Traits
Effect: The Gurahl uses this gift in order to send portentous dreams and visions to the new Gurahl she has chosen to mentor. These dreams, if heeded, will guide the new Gurahl to her teacher. The targeted Gurahl may resist with Willpower.
Ease the Fevered Mind
Activation Time: Normal
Activation Cost: One Willpower
Challenge: Mental vs target. Target may not relent. Gurahl may continue repeating this challenge until they lose, if they so choose.
Retest: Medicine
Effect: The Gurahl uses this gift to treat extreme spiritual or mental trauma. Use of this Gift can alleviate or temporarily remove the affects of many serious derangements. For each successful challenge, the Gurahl removes the affects of the trauma or derangement for a scene. If the Gurahl loses a challenge, the Gurahl must make two simple challenges. If the Gurahl loses both challenges, then they suffer the effects of the derangement. Repeated use of this gift, along with the sacrifice of permanent Willpower, at ST discretion, may serve as reason to buy off the flaw or derangement.
Duration: Per Successful Chops
Heart of the Mountain (CB20)
Activation Time: Personal
Activation Cost: One Rage and one Willpower
Effect: You automatically succeed on all static challenges of endurance. Torturers can never break you; and while your lungs may fill with liquid, you will never die of drowning. When soaking an attack, you ignore one point of damage, whether your challenge succeeded or not.
Duration: One scene
Hide the Bear (as Homid Bury the Wolf) (CB20)
Activation Time: Personal
Activation Cost: One Gnosis
Challenge: Static Gnosis (difficulty your permanent Willpower)
Effect: You are locked into Homid form and unable to spend Rage. This causes you to appear human to all supernatural detection methods, and eliminates the effects of the Curse. Additionally, this makes it easier to interact with spirits that are sensitive to a high rage rating and would otherwise be uncooperative due to feeling threatened.
Duration: One day. To end the Gift early requires a Gnosis point and a successful challenge as per activation.
Masking the Hunted
Activation Time: Normal
Activation Cost: One Gnosis
Challenge: Static vs Hunter's Mentals
Retest: Stealth
Effect: The Gurahl uses the terrain to create a safe haven for creatures or individuals pursued by hunters. Bushes will gather together to make impassable thickets. Grasses will move to cover tracks or provide false trails. Using this gift, the Gurahl can hide up to 12 human or large mammal sized creatures, or up to twice as many smaller ones.
Duration: One Scene
Survival of the Bear (as Silent Strider Adaptation)
Activation Time: Personal
Activation Cost: One Gnosis
Challenge: Physical vs. ten Traits
Retest: Survival
Effect: You become immune to harmful environmental effects -- poison gases, airborne diseases, pressure, extreme temperatures, violent weather, etc. This gift only protects you against prevailing conditions, not against specific hazardous situations like falling off a cliff or emanations of the Wyrm.
Duration: One Hour
Advanced General Gifts
Gaia’s Breath
Activation Time: Normal
Activation Cost: 1 Permanent Gnosis and 1 Permanent Willpower
Challenge: Static Social vs 9 Traits
Effect: Using this gift, the Gurahl may restore life to an individual who has died within the last four game hours. This does not regenerate any lost limbs or missing body parts. The recipient is returned to life at Incapacitated level, and must be healed with other means in order to regain further health levels.
Duration: This gift may only be attempted on a given individual once, ever.
Great Grand Father’s Summons
Activation Time: Unique
Activation Cost: Three Permanent Gnosis and one Permanent Rage
Effect: This Gift allows The Great Grandfather/Great Grandmother (or Ancient One) to send out a summons for all Gurahl to assist. This call reaches all Gurahl, even those deep in the Umbra, and wakes sleeping Gurahl. These Gurahl instinctively know to gather up their fetishes, talens, tools and weapons, and make their way to the source of the call, in order to aid.
Duration: Till the family gets here, man.
Gentle Soul (CB20)
Activation Time: Automatic
Effect: The werebear's nature as a bringer of comfort and release from pain finally overwhelms the Rage simmering within. A Gurahl with this gift is no longer subject to the Curse, and her Rage does not affect humans around her.
Duration: Permanent, once the gift is acquired.
Breed Gifts
Basic Homid Gifts
Climate Control
Activation Time: Personal
Challenge: Social Challenge
Retest: Primal Urge
Effect: The Gurahl may use this Gift to alter the temperature in her immediate vicinity from five to 25 degrees in either direction. She can create a circle of coolness in the desert or warmth in the middle of winter that covers an area large enough to encompass up to five 16 human-sized individuals. Thus she can protect those around her from heatstroke, frostbite or other effects of overexposure
Duration: 24 hours or when ended by the Gurahl.
Dolorous Countenance
Activation Time: Normal
Activation Cost: 1 or 2 Rage traits
Challenge: Social Challenge vs Target Gurahl must have eye contact when activating.
Retest: Empathy
Effect: - Similar to the Garou Homid Gift: Paralying stare, this Gift enables the Gurahl to project a countenance so baleful that an opponent backs away, either out of shame or in submission to an obvious superior - sometimes leaving the vicinity entirely. If one rage trait is spent, the target must retreat to five feet or further away from the Gurahl, and will do their best to avoid the Gurahl. If a second trait is spent, the target must leave the vicinity.
Duration: Until the Gurahl chooses to leave the area.
Master of Fire (CB20)

Persuasion
Activation Time: Reflexive
Required:You just failed a social challenge you want to retest.

Effect: Your ancestors have imbued you with sublime composure and a keen ability to drive an argument home. You may immediately retest a Social Challenge you've just failed.
Ursa’s Light
Activation Time: Personal
Challenge: Simple Test
Retest: None
Effect: This Gift allows the Gurahl to draw down the light of the stars as a directional beacon or to illuminate an area. The Gurahl appears to reach upward toward the stars in supplication as he invokes the Gift. If the Gurahl wins a Simple Test, his outstretched hand fills with a soft white illumination that can either illuminate 100 square feet or cast a penetrating ray of light for 100 yards. (If the Gurahl invokes this Gift when Ursa Major or Ursa Minor happen to be visible in the night sky, the effect is doubled. This Gift only functions at night). Gurahl may use this Gift to counteract either naturally or supernaturally caused darkness and assist friends or companions who have trouble seeing in the dark.
Duration: One Scene.
Intermediate Homid Gifts
Sense Need
Activation Time: Personal
Activation Cost: Optionally, 0-5 Mentals
Challenge: Static Mental challenge vs seven traits
Retest: Empathy
Effect: By means of this Gift, the Gurahl can open her mind to the world around her and sense avoiced or even unspoken cry for help from someone in need of assistance or succor from up to five miles away. The Gurahl concentrates to detect the presence of someone in need. Spend one Mental Trait to raise the radius by 10 miles. Sense Need will also determine if anyone in the area is in fact in need
Duration: One Scene
Shape Matter (as Homid Reshape Object)
Activation Time: Normal
Activation Cost: One Gnosis
Challenge: Social vs. a Storyteller-chosen difficulty, based on the change being attempted (a tree branch into a spear would be vs 10 traits, a single plank into a raft would be vs 13 traits, and a single blade of grass into a lean-to would be against 16 traits or more based on resilience)
Retest: Repair
Follow-up Cost: 0 to 4 Mental traits for duration; an optional Gnosis to deal Aggravated damage (see effect) and an optional permanent Gnosis to make the damage effect permanent.
Effect: You extend your shape-shifting spirit into an organic, non-living object, changing its shape and size to suit your needs: you can turn a dead branch into a spear, a pile of leaves into armor, or a piece of bone into a canoe, for example. If you create a weapon and spend an additional Gnosis, this new object can deal Aggravated damage; with a follow-up expenditure of a permanent Gnosis that effect can also be made permanent (without this expenditure the Aggravated damage fades at the end of the session or when the object retakes its original form, whichever is shorter). In the case of weapons and armor, the reshaped object has the base stats for said object.
Duration: The duration depends on the followup cost paid:
0 Mental Traits: 5 minutes;
1 Mental Trait: 10 minutes;
2 Mental Traits: 1 hour;
3 Mental Traits: the remainder of the session;
4 Mental Traits: the change is permanent
Spirit Shield
Activation Time: Normal
Activation Cost: One Gnosis
Challenge: Static Social vs. 11 Traits
Retest: Spirit Lore
Follow-up Cost: 0 to 5 Social Traits
Effect: You place a protective ward over the local area, interfering with spiritual activity. In challenges, spirits within 100 feet of you (excluding friendly or neutral spirits) take a penalty equal to one Trait plus one per Social Trait you spent.
Duration: One scene or hour
Ursa’s Coat
Activation Time: Normal
Activation Cost: One Gnosis
Follow-up Cost: One Gnosis
Effect: This Gift surrounds the Gurahl with a heavy coat of protective fur colored like a starry night. Once invoked, this Gift effectively halves all damage the character takes: An opponent must inflict two health levels of damage to cause one health level. The Gift must be invoked immediately prior to a combat; a Gurahl may not activate this Gift as a “contingency.” The Gurahl may move, but at a three Trait penalty. The Gurahl may defend herself normally.
Duration: One scene, but it may be extended by spending an additional gnosis.
Advanced Homid Gifts
Charismatic Presence
Activation Time: Normal
Challenge: Social Challenge against the targets he wishes to affect, within 20 paces.
Retest: Empathy
Effect: This Gift bestows upon the Gurahl a compelling aura of attraction to humans. In ancient times, werebears often used this Gift to place themselves in positions of leadership or influence among early human tribes, sometimes serving as the spiritual center of bear cults. Those who lose the challenge feel a great awe and respect for the Gurahl and willingly listen to and often follow his directions (though they do not become mindless slaves). Those who successfully resist may experience an active resentment against the Gurahl who tried to influence their minds. This Gift lasts for a single scene, although individuals affected by the Gift may retain some positive feelings toward the Gurahl depending on the strength of the werebear’s arguments or the force of his natural personality. Hostile actions will negate the Gift‘s effects.
Duration: One scene
Fearless Unveiling
Activation Time: Normal
Activation Cost: One Gnosis
Challenge: Social vs. target (who may not relent)
Retest: Empathy
Effect: You soothe the supernatural fear of werewolves born into each human soul. Your target will not experience the Delirium for the gift's duration. Once the need for the Gift has passed, the Gurahl must perform the Rite of the Bun to remove any “unpleasant” or “incredible” memories from the minds of the affected individuals.
Duration: One scene
Basic Ursine Gifts
Burrow
Activation Time: Personal (Movement)
Required: You must be in Crinos, Hispo or Lupus form.
Challenge: Physical vs. difficulty based on substance being burrowed through (six Traits for mud, fifteen for solid rock)
Retest: Athletics
Follow-up Cost: 0 to 5 Physical Traits
Effect: You dig a tunnel through the earth at remarkable speed. The tunnel is just big enough for you to crawl through, traveling one yard (one step), plus one for each additional Physical Trait you spend. The tunnel naturally collapses given time, but until that happens, others can follow you if they can fit. You cannot dig through metal or reinforced materials.
Duration: Until the composition of the substance you're burrowing through changes
Create Element (CB20)
Activation Time: Normal
Activation Cost: One Gnosis
Challenge: automatic if you're not trying to do damage; otherwise, Mental vs. target's Physical
Retest: Occult (you); appropriate combat retest (them)
Effect: This Gift lets you create a small amount of air, earth, fire, or water -- 10 pounds of the element per current Gnosis Trait you have, up to a maximum of 100 pounds. You can create the element anywhere within 60 feet. To create something like a burst of fire on a target, you must also win the specified Mental challenge. Fire does one level of Aggravated damage per current Gnosis trait, up to a maximum of three levels. This Gift creates pure, platonic elements -- no specialized forms like poison gas or precious metals.
Heightened Senses
Activation Time: Personal
Activation Cost: One Gnosis
Effect: All your senses become keen to an astonishing degree. In Homid or Glabro shape, you have senses as sharp as a wolf's, gaining a two-Trait bonus to all Perceptive challenges (or synonymous), and you may make Mental Challenges to perform tasks like tracking by scent that would ordinarily only be possible to wolves. In Crinos, Hispo and Lupus forms, you gain a three-Trait bonus to Perceptive challenges and a one-Trait bonus to challenges of the Primal Urge Ability (including crossing the gauntlet and other such usages). If you experience any sudden blasts of sensory information while this Gift is active, like seeing a camera flash, hearing a klaxon or getting sprayed by a skunk, you will be stunned for two rounds, and you may lose that sense completely for an hour at the Storyteller's discretion.
Duration: One Scene or Hour
Voice of Woe
Activation Time: Personal
Activation Cost: One Gnosis
Effect: This Gift allows the Gurahl to use her voice as an early warning system, sending out a call that alerts all creatures (regardless of their species) within five miles of the presence of an active danger. The sound mimics that of a bear cub in distress, so other Gurahl or bears (or Kinfolk) might actually come to the assistance of the calling Gurahl.
Duration: One Scene
Weather Watch
Activation Time: Personal
Activation Cost: One Gnosis
Challenge: Static Mental vs six Traits
Retest: Primal Urge
Effect: This Gift enables the Gurahl to make accurate predictions concerning the weather, such as approaching storms, changes in weather patterns or other significant climatic occurrences. The Gurahl need have no knowledge of weather or meteorology, but simply studies the skies with her sight, scent and taste. The Gurahl gains information from the Storyteller as to important changes in the weather for the next 48 hours. This Gift can also determine, if appropriate, the approximate length of a dry spell or the likelihood of a tornado approaching the immediate vicinity.
Duration: This Gift lasts for one scene, though the Gurahl may learn of significant weather conditions that extend beyond the duration of the Gift.
Intermediate Ursine Gifts
Gnaw
Activation Time: Personal
Activation Cost: One Willpower
Challenge: Physical vs. hardness of the target material (5 for wood; 9 for steel; 15 for titanium)
Retest: Athletics
Effect: The power of your jaws increases sharply, giving you the ability to gnaw easily through the target material. In addition, your bite inflicts one additional level of Lethal damage in combat.
Duration: One Scene or Hour
Pull of the Chosen Land
Activation Time: Personal
Activation Cost: One Gnosis
Challenge: Mental Challenge
Retest: Primal Urge
Effect: The Gurahl uses this Gift to find the quickest route to his protectorate, regardless of his current location. Even if he has been forcibly relocated to an unknown place, the Gurahl may follow an internal compass that guides him unerringly to familiar territory. This Gift works in the Umbra as well as the real world.
Duration: Once invoked, the Gift remains in effect until the Gurahl reaches his destination, though the Storyteller may require additional challenges if the werebear needs to stop to rest or sleep or gets distracted by another pressing matter (such as an attack by hunters).
Shelter of the Earth
Activation Time: Normal
Activation Cost: One Gnosis
Challenge: Physical Challenge
Retest: Stealth
Effect: The Gurahl, through the use of this Gift, “disappears” amid the local environment, making use of tall grasses, concealing trees, rockfalls or whatever terrain features are around her. While slow movement is possible without breaking cover, rapid motion, such as jogging or running, ends the Gift’s effects. The Gurahl spends a Gnosis Trait and makes a Physical Challenge (retest with Stealth) to invoke this Gift.
Duration: Lasts one scene, or until the Gurahl breaks cover by moving too quickly. If someone wishes to hunt for the Gurahl, she makes a Static Mental Challenge against the Gurahl's Physical traits.
Sweet Swarm of Vengeance
Activation Time: Normal
Activation Cost: 1 Gnosis
Challenge: Static Social vs seven traits
Retest: Animal Ken
Effect: The Gurahl can summon a swarm of angry bees which surround an enemy, harrying and stinging the targeted individual. Depending on his environment, the Gurahl may call forth as few as a dozen or as many as a thousand wasps, hornets, honeybees or other indigenous bees. The swarm obeys the Gurahl’s directions, attacking the target indicated by the summoner. Depending on the victim’s reactions and sue, this attack may serve as a nuisance and distraction or may cause death due to anaphylactic shock. The Gurahl must spend a Gnosis Trait and win a static Social Challenge against seven Traits (retest with Animal Ken) in order to locate a swarm of bees. Depending on the nature of the target, the Storyteller may need to adjudicate further challenges with the victim to determine the result of the bees’ attack.
Duration: Until the swarm is defeated or dismissed.
Advanced Ursine Gifts
Bear’s Bounty (CB2)
Activation Time: Normal
Activation Cost: 1 to 4 Gnosis (one for a Gaffling, two for a Jaggling, three for an avatar, four for a Totem Incarna)
Effect: The Gurahl addresses her petition of desperation to one of the three aspects of Bear. The Storyteller should decide the nature of the assistance the Gurahl receives, in keeping with the nature of the aspect of Bear invoked. For example, Ursa Major might provide a means of escape or an unexpected place of shelter while Mangi the Death Bear might grant the Gurahl the ability to fell an opponent with a single blow.
Duration: ST Discretion
Call the Cave Bear
Activation Time: Normal
Activation Cost: 1 Gnosis
Challenge: Social Challenge
Retest: Primal Urge
Effect: This Gift enables the Gurahl to summon her prehistoric cave bear ancestor from the Umbra to assist her for one task. The task may have several parts, but must consist of achieving one distinct goal, such as 19 defeating a particular monster or finding some ancient burial ground or lost sacred place. The cave bear returns to its place of origin once its task is completed. The cave bear should be considered to have the maximum Traits of a Gurahl in Bjomen form. Such a legendary spirit will not be pleased to answer frivolous summons, and may discipline its wayward descendant
Duration: This Gift lasts for one scene or until the creature completes the task for which it was summoned.
Auspice Gifts
Basic Arcas Gifts
Cajole
Activation Time: Normal
Challenge: Social vs target
Retest: Empathy
Effect: The Gurahl may use this Gift to coax some item or piece of information from an individual. Expressions of wide-eyed innocence or pitiful pleading usually accompany the Gift’s activation. The Gurahl can convince someone to give her food and clothing, a car or bicycle, hidden information or secure shelter through the use of this Gift. The Storyteller may require more than one test for the Gurahl to acquire extremely valuable items (such as cars).
Duration: This Gift lasts for one scene.
Open Seal
Activation Time: Normal
Challenge: Static Gnosis vs. local Gauntlet rating
Retest: Security
Effect: No lock or closed device is closed to you. With barely a gesture and an expression of desire, you open any non-mystically closed device.
Sense of the Prey
Activation Time: Normal
Required: Knowledge of your target; the target is in the same realm as you
Challenge: Mental vs. target if they are actively hiding; automatic success if they're not
Retest: Enigmas
Effect: If you're target is in the same realm as you (Earth, the Penumbra, a particular Umbral Realm, etc.), then you gain an unerring sense of which direction you must go to find them. You can move directly towards them as fast as you are able to travel. This gift may only be used on sentient creatures (humans, garou, vampires, animals, etc) but not on objects.
Walk Like a Man
Activation Time: Personal
Challenge: Static Physical challenge
Retest: Stealth
Effect: This Gift enables a Gurahl in Ursine, Bjornen or Crinos form to alter his footprints to form an exact duplicate of a human footstep, thus creating a false trail to confuse pursuit.
Duration: The effects last for one scene. The Gurahl may extend the duration of the Gift by attempting additional tests, although the Gift automatically ends if the Gurahl loses.
Intermediate Arcas Gifts
Favor of Ursa Minor (as Ragabash Luna's Blessing)
Activation Time: At Will
Required: You must be outdoors and the moon must be clearly visible in the night sky (yes, that means it doesn't work during the new moon)
Effect: As long as Luna's light shines on you, she protects you against the curse of silver. You regenerate damage from silver as if it were merely lethal. If the moon is full, this effect is increased: those who attack you with silver weapons and fail must make two Simple Tests. If both tests fail, your attacker takes damage from their own weapon.
Rejuvenate
Activation Time: Normal
Activation Cost: One Gnosis
Challenge: Static Mental Challenge vs target's Willpower
Retest: Medicine
Effect: Use of this Gift provides the target with a temporary boost in spirits and a renewed zest for living, as if she had become young again. Sometimes (at the Storyteller’s discretion), this Gift manifests physically, making the target appear and feel younger than her actual years. Gurahl may perform this gift on themselves or another creature to bolster spirits, allow an elderly person the energy to complete some vital task or rescue an aging friend from depression. The exact effects of this Gift are up to the Storyteller.
Duration: This Gift has no effect on the young - only the aged in body and mind can benefit - and lasts for the rest of the session.
Safe Passage
Activation Time: Personal
Activation Cost: One Gnosis
Challenge: Static Physical against six traits
Retest: Primal Urge
Follow-up Cost: One additional Gnosis
Effect: This Gift allows the Gurahl (and those with him) to pass through a place without leaving any traces of his travel. The Gurahl leaves no footprints and makes no other marks upon the land due to the effects of the Gift. By spending a second Gnosis Trait, the Gurahl may take up to five additional people with him and extend the Gift’s effects to include them.
Duration: One scene (or the time it takes to travel between starting point and destination)
Trackless Waste
Activation Time: Normal
Required: You know the territory where you're using this gift.
Activation Cost: One Gnosis
Challenge: static Mental vs. six Traits
Retest: Primal Urge
Follow-up Cost: 0-5 Mental Traits
Effect: You enchant a region against travel, making it impossible for those within to find their way. Within a two-mile radius (plus an additional two for each Mental Trait you spend), compasses point randomly, maps give bad directions and GPS signals are scrambled -- even landmarks seem to shift location. Travelers within the area get lost and stay lost. If Garou are in the area, they may win a Mental Challenge (retest Primal Urge) against you to find their way.
Duration: Four hours
Advanced Arcas Gifts
Humiliate
Activation Time: Normal
Challenge: Social vs up to five targets
Retest: Intimidation
Effect: The Gurahl uses this Gift to castigate (usually verbally) up to five individuals, generating such a loss of self-esteem and shame in them that they back down from a fight or flee the area. This resembles an extremely powerful form of Dolorous Countenance since it affects more than one opponent. After verbally haranguing her targets, the Gurahl makes a Social Challenge (mob scene rules apply) against up to five targets. Individuals who lose to the Gurahl either back down or flee. Those who win may ignore the effect of the Gift. Even targets who manage to resist the Gift’s effect still suffer a two-Trait penalty to their attack due to their belief that they will fail. The effects of this Gift persist for one week, sometimes leaving the victims with a permanent aversion to the Gurahl who so shamed them. Only sentient creatures qualify as targets for this Gift. Normal animals, Wyrm-creatures and spirits who lack a sense of shame are immune.
Duration: One week, possibly with permanent affect.
Natural State
Activation Time: Normal
Activation Cost: Two Gnosis
Effect: The Gurahl uses this Gift to return a patch of ground (roughly 100 square feet of terrain) to its natural state. For example, plowed or planted fields erupt in tall grasses and wildflowers; human-built objects such as cabins or houses fall into disrepair and collapse; clear-cut forest lands sprout saplings in abundance. The Gurahl use this Gift to heal lands that have suffered from over-development or corruption. Occasionally, vengeful werebears return a poacher’s camp to its “natural state.” The Storyteller should determine the precise changes to the intended area. The effects of the Gift are permanent, but the land can be re-altered.
Duration: Permanent
Basic Uzmati Gifts
Mangi’s Strong Arms
Activation Time: Normal
Activation Cost: One Gnosis
Challenge: Physical Static
Retest: Brawl
Follow-up Cost: Up to two more gnosis
Effect: This Gift enables the Gurahl to execute the formidable (or infamous) “bear-hug,” squeezing his opponent to the point of incapacitation, unconsciousness or even death. Invoking the Gift requires one full action. Spending one Gnosis Trait adds one health level to the damage inflicted by the Gurahl by a successful grappling maneuver in combat. Spending additional Gnosis Traits increases the damage on a one-for-one basis. No more than three levels of additional damage may be added. The Gurahl must apply the additional damage all at once, though he may invoke the Gift before a battle and hold it in reserve until he makes a successful grapple.
Duration: This Gift lasts for one scene.
Slash of the Death Bear (as Ahroun Razor Claws)
Activation Time: Personal
Required: A form with claws; you must rake your claws over a hard surface.
Activation Time: One turn
Activation Cost: One Rage
Effect: You sharpen your claws, honing them into even deadlier weapons. You do an additional level of damage with your claw attacks of the same type as your base claws (Aggravated in Hispo or Crinos, Lethal in others).
Duration: One Scene or Hour
Threaten
Activation Time: Normal
Challenge: Social Challenge vs Target
Retest: Intimidation
Effect: The Gurahl invokes this gift, stands erect and roars a challenge to his opponent, thus increasing his ability to intimidate his foe, forcing the enemy to wilt in terror or back off entirely from battle. The Gurahl may use this Gift to intimidate his own or another individual’s opponent. If the Gurahl is successful, the opponent cannot approach any closer than arm’s length and must cower in terror or turn and run. Certain conditions - such as certain Negative Traits, derangements or Flaws - may trigger fear frenzy in Garou, vampires or certain other Changing Breeds. Normal humans or animals may be so panic-stricken that they flee altogether or faint from terror.
Duration: This Gift lasts for one scene.
Ultimatum
Activation Time: Normal
Challenge: Willpower vs Target
Retest: Willpower
Effect: Through this Gift, the Gurahl imposes her will on her opponent, delivering an ultimatum that reduces the target’s actions to a choice between two alternatives (“Fight me where you stand, or else flee this place never to return.”). In this fashion the werebear may dictate the form of attack (or lack of attack), thus providing an advantage over her opponent. The Gurahl must succeed in a Willpower Challenge against her opponent, who may not take another action until one of the terms of Ultimatum are met.
Duration: This Gift lasts for one scene.
Intermediate Uzmati Gifts
Crush (CB20)
Activation Time: Automatic
Effect: The Gurahl may make grapple attacks at a range up to their Honor renown in yards.
Duration: Always Active
Delay the Death Bear’s Coming
Activation Time: Personal
Activation Cost: One Gnosis
Challenge: Static Mental Challenge
Retest: Medicine
Effect: This Gift enables the Gurahl or another individual so designated by the Gurahl to sustain massive damage without dying. Although the recipient of this Gift’s benefits may not engage in combat or other strenuous activities, the target remains alive long enough to allow for normal or magical healing to take place. This Gift also allows the target a very limited movement, with the assistance of another person, in order to leave the area of danger. The Gurahl spends a Gnosis Trait and wins a Mental Challenge (retest with Medicine). Success enables the target to gain an additional Incapacitated health level, making it possible to absorb otherwise fatal damage without dying. The Gurahl must re-invoke the Gift for each individual she wishes to affect. The Gurahl may use this Gift on herself, provided she has not reached Incapacitated.
Duration: The phantom health level does not have to be “healed,” but disappears after normal or magical healing restores a character to at least Wounded.
Silver Claws
Activation Time: Personal
Required: A form with claws
Challenge: Gnosis vs. 6 Traits
Retest: Occult
Effect: Calling on Luna's power, you transform your claws to silver, which inflicts an extra level of Aggravated damage to any creature vulnerable to the moon's metal. In addition, the searing pain gives you one Rage each turn and inflicts a one-Trait penalty on all non-combat Challenges. If your Rage ever exceeds your Willpower, you must test for Frenzy.
Duration: One scene, or until you end the effect
Strength of the Earth (as Get of Fenris Hero's Stand)
Activation Time: Normal
Challenge: Willpower vs. Eight Traits
Retest: Survival
Effect: Choosing your spot on the earth, you stand until all your enemies have fallen or fled. You cannot move from this spot, but you gain all the following benefits:
- A two-Trait bonus on all Physical Challenges;
- Nobody can move you from that spot;
- Every attack against you is treated like a frontal attack; and
- You can't be surprised.
Duration: These effects last until all enemies are defeated, or have fled.
Advanced Uzmati Gifts
Engulf the Prey
Activation Time: Normal
Activation Cost: 1 Gnosis and 1 Rage
Challenge: Simple Test for Gurahl, Physical Static for victims
Retest: Athletics
Effect: This Gift allows the Gurahl to draw on his connection to the earth, causing the ground underneath his target (or targets) to open up, creating a pit large enough to swallow the intended victim(s) whole or trap them so they cannot avoid further attacks. Since this Gift affects an area, all individuals within the area are vulnerable to its effects. If the Gurahl succeeds, a chasm approximately 15 feet across and at least 50 feet deep opens beneath the targets. Victims must succeed in a Physical Challenge to avoid falling into the pit, those who tie become partially trapped, and those who lose are swallowed altogether. The pit closes almost immediately after opening, trapping (and crushing) anyone inside unless they have some extraordinary means of survival or can go incorporeal or escape through the Umbra. (Vampires and certain Wyrm-creatures might survive but must free themselves or be rescued.) Victims partially caught in the pit receive two health levels of damage while anyone unlucky enough to remain fully engulfed sustains five health levels of damage and is buried alive. Victims remaining alive soon suffocate unless they possess some means of escape (such as the Gift: Burrow, see above). The Gurahl may not open up multiple pits without additional uses of this Gift.
Duration: Immediately Resolved
Rage of the Mother Bear
Activation Time: Normal
Activation Cost: 1 Gnosis and 1 Willpower, and optional follow up Gnosis or Willpower
Challenge: Physical Challenge
Retest: Primal Urge
Effect: Through this Gift, the Gurahl may arouse in herself a white-hot anger, endowing herself with uncharacteristic rapidity of movement and action. While under the effects of this Gift, the Gurahl may take extra actions either during combat or in the event of an emergency requiring swift responses and desperate measures. If she wins a Physical Challenge, she receives an additional action for that turn. She may expend additional Gnosis or Willpower Traits on a one for one basis to gain more actions. The Gurahl must take all her additional actions in the same turn or lose them.
Duration: Active for one scene, but actions used do not 'repeat'.
Basic Kojubat Gifts
Beast Speech
Activation Time: Normal
Challenge: Social vs. the animal
Retest: Animal Ken
Effect: You are able to speak with any sort of animal. If successful, you can speak not only to the target animal, but to all animals of the same type. This gift doesn't change their natures nor their reactions to the predatory nature of the Garou, nor does it force them to cooperate.
Duration: One Scene or Hour
Eyes of the Soul (as Lupus Scent of the True Form)
Activation Time: Personal
Challenge: Automatic success against Garou; otherwise, static Mental vs. 6 Traits for most creatures, 8 Traits for vampires, changelings and fera, or 10 Traits for fomori and mages
Retest: Primal Urge
Effect: Through a combination of inner vision and other mystical cues, you determine a target's true supernatural nature. You learn whether they are a werewolf, kinfolk, vampire, fomori or the like.
Song of Terra
Activation Time: Personal
Activation Cost: One Gnosis
Challenge: Static Mental vs eight traits
Retest: Primal Urge
Effect: By making contact with the earth and invoking this Gift, the Gurahl may “hear” something about the recent history of the place around her. Depending on the degree of concentration (how “hard” she listens), the Gurahl may discover events that have taken place in the vicinity within the past 24 hours. The Gurahl may learn about acts of violence, overhear conversations or discover which creatures have passed through the targeted spot. The contact with the earth must involve bare skin (such as placing one’s bare palms on the ground, putting a ear to the ground or standing on ground in bare feet), and the earth cannot be under anything such as concrete. The Storyteller then informs the Gurahl of appropriate events concerning the targeted piece of ground. As a general rule, the Gurahl “hears” the most immediate or most intense piece of information first.
Duration: This Gift lasts for one scene.
Stonesight
Activation Time: Personal
Effect: The Gurahl, using this Gift, may examine a large rock or stone, seeing “through)) it to determine its use or potential. Useful primarily for sculptors or stone workers who need to assess a particular piece of rock, this Gift also determines mineral composition or the presence of fossils. The Gurahl need only concentrate on the stone to activate this Gift. A successful Gurahl learns some information about the stone’s composition, its potential use in art or construction or some other piece of useful knowledge. As an example, the Gurahl might learn that a particular stone contains crystals within a volcanic exterior and might serve as a healing focus if used in the construction of a fetish.
Duration: The Gift lasts for one scene.
Intermediate Kojubat Gifts
Mindspeak
Activation Time: Normal
Activation Cost: One Willpower per target
Challenge: Social vs. unwilling target; automatic otherwise
Retest: Investigation
Effect: You layer a daydream across the thoughts of multiple Targets (Garou, citizens, Vampires, etc.) allowing you all to communicate in telepathic words and images with one another. You can even use Social abilities like Intimidation and Subterfuge against one another this way. This is, however, highly distracting, so everyone caught up in the gift suffers a two-Trait penalty to all challenges that involve dealing with their actual surroundings. You must be within line of sight to your targets when you activate this gift, but once active, you can communicate at any distance. A participant may even be subject to multiple uses of this gift from different Galliards, in which case they suffer cumulative penalties.
Duration: Ends when all participants choose to end it, or when you fail your challenge against an unwilling target. As duration can exceed a scene, a target that was willing prior may become unwilling due to duration and may be eligible for a new retest to forcefully break the effects.
Mind Sight
Activation Time: Normal
Activation Cost: One Gnosis
Challenge: Mental Challenge vs target
Retest: Empathy
Effect: The Gurahl uses this Gift to read the surface thoughts of an individual. The targeted creature must possess an intelligence greater than that of an animal in order for the Gift to function. The Gurahl may not unearth secrets that the target wishes to keep hidden or probe too deeply into the target’s mind. Target must reveal (out of character) the thoughts closest to the surface of her mind. The target has no knowledge that anyone has probed his thoughts. Supernatural creatures such as vampires, mages, changelings or other Changing Breeds may resist the effects of this Gift by spending a Willpower Trait.
Duration: This Gift lasts for one scene.
Probe Thoughts
Activation Time: Normal
Activation Cost: Two Gnosis
Challenge: Mental Challenge vs target
Retest: Empathy
Effect: A more powerful version of the Gift: Mind Sight (see above), Gurahl may use this Gift to probe information hidden in the mind of the target. This Gift undoubtedly serves as the basis for the belief by many tribal people that bears have the ability to read minds. The Gurahl expends two Gnosis Traits and wins a Mental Challenge (retest with Empathy) against the target, who must then reveal (out of character) one of the following pieces of information - Nature, one Flaw, any derangements, one Negative Trait (player’s choice).
Duration: This Gift lasts for a single scene.
Shadows by the Firelight
Activation Time: Normal
Challenge: Social vs. each unwilling target; automatic vs. willing targets
Retest: Performance
Follow-up Cost: 1-5 Gnosis
Effect: You spin a story from dreams and shadows, compelling others to take on a role you assign them. While compelled by the gift, they act out their role precisely, and dreamlike sensations immerse them in the tale. Galliards commonly employ this gift to highlight climactic moments in the stories they tell at moots -- that is, when they're not in battle, weaving a tale of bitter defeat for their enemies to take part in.
- In combat, the Galliard may use their actions to target one person in the combat at a time, compelling that target to act in a certain way. This gift cannot compel them to put themselves in danger or act in a dramatically out of character way (e.g., you cannot force a target to stab themselves or to attack one of their allies). However, you can describe an enemy losing grasp of their weapon, changing their focus to another enemy target, or retreating from battle. An unwilling target who successfully defeats the user in the social challenge to resist this gift cannot be targeted again for the gift's duration. The user can also use this gift to compel their allies to further action - allowing a strong ally extra attacks without needing to spend rage at the urging of the Galliard's tale, or compelling them to retreat if they are grievously wounded and vulnerable to being finished off by an enemy. Should an ally choose to resist and they successfully do so, they cannot be targeted again for the gift's duration.
Duration: One turn per Gnosis spent
Advanced Kojubat Gifts
Aversion Therapy
Activation Time: Normal
Activation Cost: 1 Gnosis, and 1 Willpower if the target is a supernatural creature
Challenge: Mental Challenge vs target
Retest: Empathy
Effect: Gurahl use this Gift to rehabilitate chronic offenders or to force wrongdoers to cease their harmful activity. By tapping into the individual’s deepest emotions and linking one or more of them with the thought of carrying out the forbidden deed, the Gurahl establishes a link between action and emotion. For example, an abusive spouse may be wracked with incapacitating guilt and feelings of violation if he ever thinks about hurting his wife. This link, when established, lasts for a year and a day (in game time). The Gurahl spends a Gnosis Trait and wins a Static Mental Challenge (restest with Empathy) against the target’s Willpower. Gurahl using this Gift on a supernatural creature must expend a Willpower Trait as well.
Duration: A year and a Day
Prophetic Vision
Activation Time: Unique - At least 15 minutes of meditation.
Activation Cost: 1 Gnosis Trait
Challenge: Static Mental Challenge vs Nine traits to attain the vision, Static Mental vs Seven traits to interpret
Retest: Enigmas
Follow-up Cost: Additional gnosis may be spent to add depth and detail to the vision
Effect: Lorekeepers of the Gurahl claim that this Gift once gave them early warning of the War of Rage. This Gift allows a Gurahl to enter a deep trancelike state to cross the barriers between present and future, thus receiving warnings or images of what lies ahead. These images, while often vivid and cinematic, need interpretation, since they frequently employ dream imagery. Many Gurahl who use this Gift do not always understand what they have seen or heard until the events have come to pass. Lately, this Gift has presented Gurahl with very disturbing images which lorekeepers believe portend the imminence of the Apocalypse. To activate this Gift, the player must spend 15 minutes out of game as her Gurahl character enters a meditative state. After the time has elapsed, the Gurahl must spend a Gnosis Trait and win a Static Mental Challenge (retest with Enigmas) against nine Traits. Spending additional Gnosis Traits adds depth and detail to the vision. A Storyteller or Spirit Keeper should describe the vision the Gurahl receives, making use of symbols, dreamscapes and other cryptic images.
Duration: 15 minutes for meditation
Basic Kieh Gifts
Diagnose
Activation Time: Unique - At least one minute of studying the target.
Challenge: Mental Challenge
Retest: Medicine
Effect: This Gift enables the Gurahl to determine the general state of health of an individual, often allowing him to identify diseases or other ailments present. After concentrating on his target for one minute, the Gurahl must win a Mental Challenge (retest with Medicine). Success allows him to ascertain specific diseases - including lung disorders, stomach ailments or infectious diseases.
Duration: This Gift lasts for one scene.
Refresh
Activation Time: Personal
Activation Cost: One Gnosis
Challenge: Static Mental Challenge
Retest: Medicine
Effect: The Gurahl may use this Gift in battle to give an ally a second wind, allowing the target to ignore wounds long enough to continue fighting - and, perhaps, surviving. This serves as the equivalent of “battlefield medicine,” providing a stopgap measure until further healing can take place, By touching her target, spending a Gnosis Trait and winning a Mental Challenge (retest with Medicine), the Gurahl temporarily restores up two health levels of damage, even aggravated, for the rest of the combat scene. When the combat is over, the damage returns unless healed by Gifts or medical care.
Duration: The damage returns when the combat is over.
Sense the Unnatural
Activation Time: Personal
Challenge: Mental vs. Storyteller-determined difficulty
Retest: Enigmas
Follow-up Cost: 0 to 2 Mental Traits
Effect: This spiritual sense reveals any presence that is out-of-place in Gaia's design: magic, ghosts, strange spirits, vampires, Wyrm influence, etc. The number of Mental Traits you spend determines how clear the information is. If you spend no Traits, the Storyteller will give you a cryptic but vague hint, like the smell of old blood for either a vampire or a man-eating fomor. One Mental Trait will get you a clear but generic idea of what's unnatural here; two Mental traits will give you a specific signature impression that will allow you to recognize similar disturbances in the future. If an impression is particularly unfamiliar, the Storyteller may require a followup Mental Challenge (retest Occult) against six Traits.
Spirit Speech
Activation Time: Automatic
Effect: You understand spirit languages used around you, and you can communicate back in kind. Because relatively few spirits can communicate in the the common tongue this gift is invaluable.
Intermediate Kieh Gifts
Exorcism
Activation Time: Normal
Activation Cost: One Gnosis
Vs. spirits that are not bound, or that are bound to a place:
Challenge: Social vs. the spirit
Retest: Intimidation
Effect: You compel a spirit to leave this place, even if it is unwilling. This breaks any binding present.
Vs. spirits that are bound to a fetish, object, or person:
Challenge: Social vs. the owner of the fetish or object, or against the person themself
Retest: Intimidation
Effect: You break the bond between the spirit and the object or person it is bound to, forcing it to leave. Fetishes lose their spiritual power, becoming ordinary objects. Fomori, once the possessing bane is ejected, die (unless a very powerful healer can somehow preserve the host's life through the process).
Name the Spirit
Activation Time: Normal
Required: A spirit within 50 feet on either side of the Gauntlet
Challenge: Mental vs. the spirit
Retest: Investigation
Follow-up Cost: (optional) one Willpower
Effect: Your eyes see into the very essence of a spirit, telling you its type and its approximate levels of Rage, Gnosis and Willpower. If you spend a Willpower Trait as well, you also sense the spirit's true name, which can be useful for summoning or tracking it.
Spirit Healing
Activation Time: Normal
Activation Cost: At least one Gnosis
Challenge: Social challenge vs target spirit
Retest: Medicine
Effect: As Gaia’s healers, the Gurahl serve not only as healers of physical creatures but of spirits as well. This Gift allows a Gurahl in the Umbra to replenish a wounded spirit’s Power. By entering the Umbra and winning a Social Challenge against the spirit, the Gurahl may convert one of his own Gnosis Traits into five points of Power and give it to a damaged spirit. The Gurahl may spend additional Gnosis Traits on a one to five point basis if he so desires without any further challenges.
Duration: Any additions to a spirit’s Power last until depleted by normal means.
Spirit Shape
Activation Time: Personal
Activation Cost: One Gnosis
Challenge: Static Social Challenge vs six Traits
Retest: Enigmas
Effect: This Gift allows the Gurahl to assume the appearance of a creature native to the Umbra, thus appearing to spirits as one of their own kind. This Gift allows Gurahl to travel in parts of the Umbra that might otherwise prove hostile or inimical to them. The Gurahl must enter the Umbra, spend a Gnosis Trait and win a Static Social Challenge versus six Traits (retest with Enigmas). Success allows the Gurahl to take on the appearance of an Umbral creature. For example, a Gurahl may assume the form of a Pattern Spider when in a part of the Umbra ruled by the Tapestry Maker. If the Gurahl loses the test, she runs the risk of alerting hostile spirits to her presence unless she leaves the Umbra quickly.
Duration: This Gift lasts until the Gurahl leaves the Umbra.
Advanced Kieh Gifts
Image of the Sky Bear
Activation Time: Normal
Activation Cost: One Gnosis
Effect: The Gurahl calls down the power of Ursa Major, the Great She-Bear, to amplify his own mystical abilities. The Gurahl’s body glows with seven points of light that mirror the stars in the constellation Ursa Major. Once the Gift has come into play, the Gurahl may use the seven “points” of borrowed light as if he had seven extra Traits or seven extra health levels or seven actions to heal wounds, each action healing a target individual to full health, and each action to be taken at a time of the Gurahl's choosing. (choose one option when the Gift is invoked). Each time the Gurahl uses one of these extra Traits, one of the lights blinks out. The Gift ends when all the lights have darkened, indicating that the Gurahl has used the borrowed power of Ursa Major. A Gurahl may not use this Gift more than once in any given session. The extra Traits he receives remain until lost through being expended or from losing a challenge or until the end of the session; extra health levels are lost before regular ones and are not replenished. Healing is permanent until more damage is incurred.
Duration: Until the end of the Session.
Restore Sanity
Activation Time: Normal
Activation Cost: One Gnosis (or 3 Gnosis if treating Harano)
Challenge: Mental Challenge vs Target (With additional static Mental vs 8 Traits if treating Harano)
Retest: Empathy
Effect: With this Gift, a Gurahl may completely restore the mind of an individual affected by an unexpected catastrophe, mental trauma or deliberately induced insanity. Unlike Ease the Fevered Mind, this Gift cannot remove derangements or pre-existing mental problems; it simply restores a traumatized mind to its pre-trauma state. Success brings the target back from a state of induced insanity or traum This Gift may not heal a metis’s madness (if that is his deformity), a Malkavian vampire’s primary derangement or permanent forms of insanity. This Gift may be used to treat Harano. The Storyteller should act as the final judge as to whether or not a particular mental problem falls within the parameters of this Gift. The Gurahl may not treat another individual without re-invoking the Gift.
Duration: The effects of this Gift are permanent until something occurs to change them.
Basic Rishi Gifts
Befriend
Activation Time: Normal
Challenge: Social Challenge vs Target
Retest: Empathy
Effect: This Gift enables the Gurahl to alter the emotions of a potentially hostile individual so that the target exhibits a friendlier attitude toward the Gurahl than she previously demonstrated. The Gurahl assumes a non-threatening physical posture and wins a Social Challenge against the target (retest with Empathy), who then responds more favorably to the Gurahl than the original response. For example, a hostile target might regard the Gurahl with a wary neutrality, while a noncommittal individual would warm considerably. This Gift does not affect creatures naturally inimical to the Gurahl, such as Wyrm-spirits, poachers, etc.
Duration: The effect of the Gift lasts for one scene, although the Gurahl may use the improved atmosphere as a means of using personal charisma and natural persuasion to cause a permanent change in attitude.
Compel Truth
Activation Time: Normal
Activation Cost: One Gnosis
Challenge: Mental vs Target
Retest: Investigation/Subterfuge
Effect: This Gift enables the Gurahl to force another individual to speak only the truth, at least as that person perceives it. If the Gurahl wins, the target must speak only the truth as she knows it for the next 10 minutes.
Duration: 10 Minutes
Presence of the Great Bear (as Philodox King of the Beasts)
Activation Time: Normal
Required: An animal within 100 feet
Frequency: You may affect only one animal at a time
Challenge: static Social vs. three Traits for a wolf you're related to, six Traits for an animal you care for, eight Traits for an unfamiliar animal, or ten Traits for an unfriendly animal
Retest: Animal Ken
Effect: You exert a mystic dominance over the target animal, winning its loyalty instantly. It will follow your orders unconditionally.
Truth of Gaia
Activation Time: Reflexive
Required: The target has just made a statement you want to test.
Challenge: Mental vs. target
Retest: Empathy
Effect: You hear the ring of truth and deception in the words of others. If you win the challenge, you can tell if the target has deliberately lied to you. The gift cannot detect lies that the target actually believes -- misinformation and altered memories foil this gift.
Intermediate Rishi Gifts
Bestow Ursa’s Blessing
Activation Time: Personal
Activation Cost: One Gnosis
Challenge: Mental Challenge
Retest: Empathy
Effect: - The Gurahl use this Gift to bestow some favor from the Great Bear upon an individual of their choosing. The Gurahl spends a Gnosis Trait and wins a Mental Challenge while describing the exact nature of the blessing. The boon should be something tangible or some piece of good fortune, such as an additional Attribute Trait, a free retest, a temporary addition to an Influence or a Background Trait (the Storyteller has the final say on what form the blessing may take). If the Gurahl wishes to make the Blessing a permanent one, she must sacrifice a permanent Gnosis Trait to do so. The Gurahl may use this Gift only once per story.
Duration: 1 Month if Temporary, or Permanent if Gnosis is sacrificed
Quell Mob Rage
Activation Time: Normal
Cost: One Willpower
Challenge: Static Social vs highest Socials in the group
Retest: Leadership
Effect: This Gift allows the Gurahl to dispel the anger of a crowd, break up lynch mobs or quell a riot before it begins by speaking quietly and calmly to the would-be participants. The Gurahl spends a Willpower Trait and engages in a Static Social Challenge against the highest Willpower in the group (retest with Leadership). If the Gurahl wins, the crowd must disperse and may not assemble again for the same purpose (though nothing prevents them from finding something else to anger them).
Duration: This Gift lasts for one scene
Waken
Activation Time: Normal
Cost: One Gnosis, additionally 1 Willpower if being used on a Gurahl under the effects of the Rite of the Long Sleep.
Challenge: Mental Challenge vs Target
Retest: Leadership
Effect: Gurahl may use this Gift to waken another creature from an unnatural slumber or some form of supernatural sleep. With this Gift, a werebear may rouse a vampire from torpor, bring another Gurahl out of Bhernocht-induced sleep or even waken a creature affected by Rite of the Long Sleep. Success allows the Gurahl to touch the target, causing that individual to awaken from whatever slumber has claimed him. To counter the effects of Rite of the Long Sleep, the Gurahl must spend a Willpower Trait. Those affected by this Gift may not appreciate being awakened and may react appropriately.
Duration: The creature awakened by the Gift remains awake, subject only to its natural sleep cycles.
Ways of the Tapestry
Activation Time: Personal
Cost: One Gnosis
Challenge: Static Mental vs 8 Traits
Retest: Enigmas
Effect: Gurahl use this Gift to gain some insight into how something that puzzles them fits into the larger picture. This Gift may also indicate how an event fits into a Gurahl’s past, present or, possibly, future. If the Gurahl succeeds, the Storyteller should give the Gurahl an important fact or two about a current dilemma or problem. Like all divinations, the results should be shrouded in mystery but not indecipherable.
Duration: This Gift lasts for one scene
Advanced Rishi Gifts
Oath of the Great Bear (as Philodox Geas)
Activation Time: Normal
Frequency: A target may labor beneath only one geas. Geases after the first one will fail until such a point as the first geas is fulfilled.
Activation Cost: One Gnosis
Challenge: Social vs. target; or, vs. highest Social among all members of the target pack or family
Retest: Leadership
Effect: You lay a mystically binding oath over a target or group or targets. The requirements of this oath may not override basic self-preservation, but it has significant leeway otherwise. The target or targets are compelled to obey the oath until an assigned task is completed -- or until another use of Geas cancels the compulsion.
Duration: Until the task is completed, or until Geas is used to cancel the compulsion
Words of Doom
Activation Time: Normal
Cost: One Gnosis
Challenge: Mental Challenge vs Target
Retest: Occult
Effect: The Gurahl, through this Gift, places a curse upon an individual (or an allied group of up to five persons) as a punishment for some gross misdeed. Gurahl use this Gift sparingly, since doing so places the invoker in danger of becoming a tool of the Pattern Breaker, bringing additional darkness to the spirit of the person or persons cursed. The Gurahl states the terms of the curse, spends a Gnosis Trait and engages the target or targets in a Mental Challenge (mob scene rules apply). The words used must exactly describe the terms of the curse along with the means of lifting it. (“May you and your packmates never know a night’s rest until you restore the fetish you took from me.”) The Storyteller may require the Gurahl to expend more than one Gnosis Trait for a particularly baleful or detrimental curse.
Duration: The Gift ends with the pronouncement of the curse, but the effects may endure for much longer.
