Caern Defenses

Page history last edited by TC STs 1 month ago

What is a Caern?

A caern is a natural upwelling of Gnosis, the spiritual energies of Gaia, used by the Garou to power their gifts. Caerns also have a very thin gauntlet, allowing easier congress between the physical world and the Umbra. It's possible that a caern's Gnosis actually comes from the Umbra in this fashion.

Defenses:

To humans:

The area is in a large woods that is recovering from a forest fire (to those not aware of the true events).

The warder pack guards the only open entrance.

Th woods have an aura of being haunted. (Rite: Enchant the Forest; expires July 2024)

For The Alpha:

Sept Klaive that was bound to the heart of the Caern that only the Alpha could activate. The Klaive is atuned to the Alpha. The Alpha, when removing it from the sept heart can use it to effect the location/ area of the caern in the umbra and the real.

Spiritually:

1) EMERGENCY RATIONS.

A Spirit of Resolve, this Defender that exists to power a Sept Fetish. Emergency Gnosis rations while under siege/attack seems like a very valuable investment. (details to be added later)

2) I HATE SAND IT'S COARSE AND IT GETS EVERYWHERE.

Making a deal with a spirit of dust or sand (some earth elemental would be a decent idea) to have sand and dirt and grime cling to anyone who isn't Sept Member or a welcomed guest. This would make spotting intruders much easier, and ideally could be used to help thwart invisible enemies by showing weird little 3-D dirt silhouettes wandering about.

3) IMPACT DAMPENING.

A spirit of Motion that provides some help defending members of the Sept against attacks. Once per round, when hit by an attack, a member of the Sept can spend a willpower and make a simple chop. If successful, reduce the damage type by one. Agg becomes Lethal, Lethal becomes Bashing, and Bashing is reduced by 2 to a minimum of 1.

4) SHROUDED GLEN

Per the Rite of Shrouded Glenn and made permanent. The Sept and Bawn is effectively invisible to outside observation in the Umbra. There is no wall or trail to follow of this effect. Anything within the umbra but outside of the Bawn borders only sees the forest as it should naturally be. Effectively, accidental spirit visits are extremely rare. Spirits do not see anything suspicious and must have other reason to enter the forest of the Bawn (such as being summoned, natural migration, or direct orders to overturn every stone while scouting). This effect is indiscriminate and impacts Garou and other supernaturals as well. Garou who know of the Sept will experience "suddenly there was a clearing and a cabin" when they cross the threshold of the bawn. BSDs and other undesirables can stumble across the threshold if they are making thorough effort to explore the forest.

Gate Keeper:

With the use of the Path Stone fetish the Gate Keeper can know when a Moon Bridge is opening onto the sept. If through the usual moon bridge between caerns the gate keeper can deny or approve it. If it is simply the use of the gift "Bridge Walker" they will get a surprise round to react to the bridge but can not cancel it.

NEARBY:

The Great White Wolf spirit is just across the highway, he seems to watch the woods and the caern. A spirit deal has been made with him and the Sept.
