Return to Complete Rules Index

October 8, 2016

     Gift:

  • Removed wording which said that once your rank was reduced, you lost access to the gift.  As this is a deviation from canon, we have decided to remove it.

October 2, 2016

     Rite:

  • Rite of Renunciation - changed to be in line with the org's rules for this ritual.

July 9, 2016

     Gift:

  •      Ragabash - Obscure the Truth: changed to be a might-like retest instead of a trait bonus

May 5, 2015

Merits/Flaws:

In order to effect some trait balancing, Merits and Flaws which do not originate from a Werewolf system will be removed from the Wiki. Characters with relevant Merits will have the points refunded in the denomination spent to buy them (Freebie points or XP), as best as we can figure it out. Characters with removed Flaws will have to pay the difference as best as can be calculated.

Alternately, removed Merits and Flaws can be exchanged with ST approval, with point differences refunded or spent as needed. We'll work with you to see what we can figure out.

We are also adding some Merits and Flaws which are from Werewolf and have made their way to character sheets.

      • Celebrity

      • Superstition

      • Insomnia

      • Magic Susceptibility

      • Addiction

      • Bard's Tongue

*Lifesaver is actually being kept, but Garou aren't eligible.

Gifts

Gifts that have typos or wrong names will be renamed for consistency with published material.

Gifts that we noticed were a wrong level w.r.t the books or Gifts we already use will have their level changed. If you’re affected by this, tell us.

Gifts will be removed if they were in a bad category for some reason.
Affected players can have the Gifts refunded, or can keep the Gifts by questing/being vouched for/spending the XP difference (basically converting the Gift to an out-of). If for some reason you already bought the Gift as an out-of, we’ll probably just change the category and let you keep it.

A few Gifts we thought should be different will have their mechanics changed. This isn’t a comprehensive overhaul, but stuff that really stood out for some reason. We know there's more.

If the Gift has an * in front of its name, it will definitely affect at least one player’s sheet.

Page____________  Changes
Abilities, Called Shots and Situational Modifiers
  • Off-hand penalties are gone. With the change to Ambidexterity, and given that you can only ever attack with one weapon per action anyway, there is no benefit to tracking such things.
  • Without off-hand penalties, two-weapon combat specializations are no longer any different than other specializations. They apply a +1 bonus to fighting in that style.
  • Clarified that multiple specializations don't stack. A Two-Gun Mojo specialization plus a Pistols specialization is still just +1. (Ambidexterity is a Merit, however, so its bonus will stack with your specialization.)
Gifts: Metis
  • Umbral Body: Updated/clarified that theGift permits you to dodge as passive resistance (i.e., dodging doesn't cost an action).

Page________________  Changes
Traits, Challenges, and Retests
  • Rage, Gnosis, and Willpower Challenges: Clarified: Just like your other Traits, these challenges use your current ratings, not your permanent ratings.
Experience Points
  • Lores: You are may buy up to half your Rank (round up) in Garou, Tribe, and Spirit Lore without a teacher.
Backgrounds
  • Pack Tactics: No longer grants bonus Traits. Instead, you may give a packmate a retest on a challenge when it's not your turn. You must give up your next action, spend one dot of Pack Tactics, and offer a plausible description of how you assist that packmate. If so, your packmate gets an additional retest.
Merits
  • Ambidexterity: No longer grants additional actions. Instead, in addition to granting equal facility with both hands, it gives a +1 bonus to two-weapon, two-gun or two-handed combat styles. (E.g., you attack with a sword; the dagger in your other hand lends a +1 Trait bonus to that attack.) The Merit is no longer Restricted. You may request an XP refund if you don't like the change.
  • Danger Sense: As there are no longer Surprise rounds, you may instead simply act on your normal initiative when you are surprised.
Tribes
  • Black Fury Tribe Benefit: Once per day at a Holy Site you may now regain one Willpower per Rank.
  • Shadow Lord Tribe Benefit: Now does not cost Gnosis.
  • Silver Fang Tribe Benefit: The First Tribe retest can only be used in challenges against Garou or Kinfolk.
The Five Forms and Shapeshifting
  • War Form Base Damage: Claw attacks and bite attacks in Crinos and Hispo deal two Aggravated Damage rather than one. (The Hispo bite attack still does two. It does not increase to three.)
Rage, Gnosis, and Willpower
  • Rage-Heal: Clarified: when you rage-heal, you don't actually drop -- you stay in the fight.
Gifts
  • Camp/House Requirements: When a Gift lists membership in a Camp or House as a requirement, you can still learn it as an "Out-Of-" Gift provided you are a member of the Tribe. A Camp or House member must vouch for you, you must pay the spirit chiminage, and you must pay "Out-Of-" XP costs.
  • Armor Type: Effects that grant armor or health levels now include an Armor Type (Skin, Apparel, or Barrier).  You may benefit from only one of each type of armor at a time.
Gifts: Homid
  • Tongues: You may understand, speak, and read (but not write) all human languages.
Gifts: Metis
  • Shed: This gift may be considered "always on" in forms with fur.
  • Gift of the Porcupine: Clarified: The two extra traits you bid to avoid the quills are an additional cost, not a called shot. (I.e., a called shot that avoids the quills is a 5-Trait bid total.)
  • Umbral Body: Added.
Gifts: Ragabash
  • Blur of the Milky Eye: Clarified: This Gift does not effect people who are looking at you when you activate it.
  • Luna's Blessing: You don't need to be able to personally see the moon to use this Gift. Instead, you must be outdoors in an area where the moon is visible in the night sky.
  • Whelp Body: The Traits you take can no longer regained until the end of the session.
  • Blank: Added.
Gifts: Theurge
  • Web Walker: You must be able to move at least one step to use the gift.

Gifts: Philodox

  • Wall of Granite: Assigned the Barrier armor type. Its 15 Health Levels no longer differentiate between different types of damage. It can now only be activated once per scene.

Gifts: Galliard
  • Bridge Walker: You must be able to move at least one step to use the gift.
  • Fog of War: Added to Galliard list.
Gifts: Ahroun
  • Inspiration: Affects all allies within earshot, not just five.
  • Pack Tactics: Designate a target when you activate the Gift. You and your packmates get a +1 bonus per packmate to Physical Challenges against only that target.
  • Combat Healing: Removed "life-threatening combat" requirement. Scene Duration.
Gifts: Black Fury
  • Curse of Aeolus: Rather than a -4 penalty to all Physical/Social/Mental challenges, it halves all Perception challenges.
  • Bacchantes' Rage: +10 Trait bonus on Physical Challenges rather than win-all-ties.

Gifts: Child of Gaia

  • Luna's Armor: Now grants Rank + 1 levels of Barrier-type armor.

Gifts: Fianna
  • Balor's Gaze: Once the gift is active, focusing the Gaze on a target requires an action. The Willpower Challenge is contested, not static, subject to the five-minute rule. Under the gaze, a target who has no means of ignoring pain takes penalties as if Wounded (lose all ties); a target who can ignore pain for some reason instead loses that ability.
  • Ley Lines: Free retest to avoid all tracking for the scene, not just mundane tracking. Five-minute rule applies rather than immunity for the scene.
  • Woadling: A contested challenge, Physical v. Occult, inflicting a 2-Trait penalty on all challenges for 3 turns.

Gifts: Get of Fenris

  • Berserker Song: Aligned with Player's Guide to the Garou writeup. Is now a basic Gift.

  • Troll Skin: Assigned the Skin armor type.

Gifts: Glass Walker

  • Steel Fur: Assigned the Skin armor type.

  • Web Walker: You must be able to move at least one step to use the gift.

Gifts: Shadow Lord

  • Luna's Armor: Now grants Rank + 1 levels of Barrier-type armor.

Gifts: Silver Fang

  • Luna's Armor: Now grants Rank + 1 levels of Barrier-type armor.

Gifts: Uktena
  • Blur of the Milky Eye: Clarified: This Gift does not effect people who are looking at you when you activate it.
Rank
  • Lores: No more will 1 XP be automatically assigned and spent on Lore when you Rank up. Instead, you are always permitted to buy up to half your Rank in Garou, Tribe, and Spirit without a teacher.
Combat
  • Surprise: There is no longer a Surprise Round. Instead, a surprised target simply acts last in the initiative order of the first turn.
  • Initiative: Your permanent Physical Trait total in Homid is now your initiative. Break ties by comparing permanent Dexterity-related Traits.
  • Declarations: You no longer have to declare Rage, Gnosis and Will at the beginning of the round. Just take your turn as it comes. If you use Gnosis, that precludes your ability to spend Rage that turn. If you use Rage, you can't spend Gnosis. When it comes time for Rage Actions, if you can spend Rage, you can take some. You still can't spend more than five Rage or Gnosis in a turn.

Weapons and Armor

  • Armor Type: Effects that grant armor or health levels now include an Armor Type (Skin, Apparel, or Barrier).  You may benefit from only one of each type of armor at a time.

Umbra

  • Stepping Sideways: Added rules for Gauntlet strength on the Bawn. While stepping sideways, you are pulling yourself through pure stasis -- you can take no other actions, you can't even regenerate. All you can do is communicate through pack link.

Page____________  Changes
Gifts: Ragabash
  • Violation: This gift was changed to be more in-line with it's table-top write-up, rather than the 1st Edition Laws of the Wild write-up.  As such it is now a Social Challenge, rather than a Mental Challenge, and the gift lasts for a number of rounds, rather than scenes or sessions.

March 24, 2014

Page____________  Changes

Gifts: Metis

  • Gift of the Porcupine: Attackers may bid two additional traits to avoid the quills when striking (and thus not take damage).

Gifts: Uktena

  • Shroud: The benefits are those standard to being in darkness.

Fetish Creation

  • If you didn't see the original announcement, we added an additional set of rules for Fetish Creation. We encourage you to read these rules if you haven't already.

Spirits

  • We clarified that spirits test with double their Gnosis for both Mental and Social Challenges. They test with triple their Rage for Strength Based challenges, and triple their Willpower for Stamina and Dexterity Based challenges.

  • We have added a mechanic by which spirits may take “Rage-like Actions”. Spirits may now spend 3 essence to gain a single action at the end of the round. These actions take place at the same time as Rage Actions.

Rites: Mystic

  • Rite of the Totem: We clarified that you did not need to perform this ritual each time someone was added to the pack, only when the pack is first formed.

Rites: Renown

  • Rite of Accomplishment: We have removed the requirement that you be of higher rank than the recipient in order for them to gain renown from your Rite of Accomplishment. Let the Cliath write the tales of the awesome and amazing Elders!

Abilities

  • Blindfighting: Blindfighting cancels the “Blind” retest once, rather than canceling it for an entire round.

  • Linguistics: We will be allowing people to purchase more than 5 dots of the Linguistics ability. This does not change the cost of purchasing these points, nor their benefit.

Tribes

  • Stargazers: The Stargazer flaw has been returned to its 1st edition drawback, as the previous drawback wasn't a penalty at all.

Rage, Gnosis, and Willpower

  • We have removed the option to spend the Gnosis after failing a challenge activate Fetishes or Talens. You must now choose to do one or the other, but cannot spend immediately afterward to simply succeed.

Umbra

  • We have removed the option to spend the Gnosis after failing a challenge to cross the Gauntlet. You must now choose to do one or the other, but cannot spend immediately afterward to simply succeed.

  • At some point the capability to make minor alterations to the Penumbra using Gnosis became a rule in our game. However after investigation, we could only find a reference indicating that such alterations were possible in the Flux, not in any other realms, or the Penumbra. As such, this rule has been removed.

Rank

  • Legend: The benefit has been changed from giving Ties on Strength-Based Challenges to providing a +10 trait bonus on Strength-Based Challenges.
